Dynaudio Emit 20 is a high performance standmount loudspeaker derived from the prestigious Evoke, Contour i and Confidence series. It offers a stellar combination of detail and punch for small to medium sized rooms.

Description

Stunning performance from powerful bookshelf speakers

The Dynaudio Emit 20 is an excellent performing bookshelf speaker. Dynaudio speaks of "true High Fidelity" and the Danish brand is not easy to enthusiasm. In this case, to all intents and purposes, the new Emit 20 MY2021 is an excellent HiFi speaker capable of producing a refined and transparent sound. In short, a premium speaker for music lovers, which amazes starting from the price.

Calling it entry-level is wrong. Inside the Dynaudio Emit 20 there is all the technology of Dynaudio's High End lines reaching up to the top of the Confidence range. No doubt then: with Dynaudio Emit 20 it will be possible to experience performances well above their price level.

Mid/bass power and control

The Dynaudio Emit 20 uses an 18cm MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) woofer, based on the one used in the Dynaudio Evoke series. MSP is a material developed internally by Dynaudio and used for many years on the most renowned models. The cone itself is made in a single mold and the front dust cap is molded as part of the playing surface itself. This structure gives the cone a solid connection to the voice coil which moves it back and forth. This connection translates, when listening, into great control and detail in the low and medium frequencies.

The woofer voice coil is aluminum, wound on a two layer glass fiber former. Dynaudio, for good reason, has a long history of using aluminum wire in voice coils. It's light weight, so it doesn't impede fine movement, and you can get multiple wraps on the first one for a given length of wire. That means more “BL” or magnetic power. More power means more "punch", more thrust. In this case the aluminum cable has been further enhanced with a copper jacket, as only Dynaudio could do.

Thanks to these special design features – and thanks to the new system of stacked ferrite magnets and the new surround ring – the Dynaudio Emit 20 manage to have extraordinary control over the mid frequencies (guitars and violins for example) even at high volumes.

Tweeter with high level performance

Dynaudio Emit 20 uses a high-end tweeter, the Cerotar, which comes directly from the top Evoke line. It is a 28mm soft dome design tweeter that includes the ingenious Hexis internal dome device. The thermoplastic-coated fabric dome delivers sweet, transparent high frequencies – with all the openness and detail artists want to get to the listener – while the Hexis smooths the frequency response and reduces unwanted resonance for a amazing clarity.

Cerotar is powered by a powerful ferrite + strontium carbonate ceramic magnet system. It gives the tweeter all the power it needs to play loud without interruption, while retaining all the original nuances. The absence of unwanted resonances also means being able to listen with less noise and, therefore, less disturbing the neighbours.

Since it uses Core Pro reference speaker technology (top of the professional range, specially created for long listening sessions), the Dynaudio Emit 20 lends itself very well to hours and hours of playback without creating "listening fatigue".

Inside the crossover

The mid/bass driver and tweeter are connected to a custom-designed crossover from the same team that created the Dynaudio Heritage Special and Core. The Danish engineers used a first- and second-order hybrid topology for the tweeter and woofer respectively, offering exceptional control over the behavior of each driver. It means that it will be possible to listen to everything the artist has engraved on the audio track, without compromise.

An impressive finish

Dynaudio Emit 20 is available in three satin finishes – Black, White and Walnut – which beautifully complement the typical clean Scandinavian design of the speakers. All design was conceived in-house at the headquarters in Denmark. The magnetic grids, always black, are included in the package.

The front of these speakers is totally linear, with no visible screws or joints. Furthermore, thanks to innovative production processes, the surface finish is already incorporated in the coating layer: this eliminates the need for lacquering and therefore minimizes degradation over time.

If you want an audiophile-grade standalone speaker for a stereo system in a medium-sized room, or if you want good punch from your surround back channels in a home theater system, the Dynaudio Emit 20 is an ideal choice.

Recommended amplifier, cables, accessories

If you are looking for a suitable amplifier to drive the Emit 20s, in a stereo system we recommend pairing it with Cyrus One (in one of three versions, depending on the type of listening and the preferred source: from analogue to streaming, to TV) or with Hegel H95 or again Lyngdorf TDAI-1120. If you are interested in a Home Cinema system instead choose a receiver with no less than 80 Watts per channel, or even better 100 Watts.

Excellent audio cables, and commensurate for use with Dynaudio's Emits, are the Chord C-line or, if budget permits, the Clearway. We are talking about both signal cables with which to connect the various electronics and power cables between amplifier and speakers.

The recommended stands for Emit 20 are those proposed by Dynaudio itself, built specifically for compact speakers: Stand 10 or the larger Stand 20.

In both stereo and multi-channel systems, the use of Kube 8b, Kube 10b or Kube 12b subwoofers is recommended (depending on room size). In case of space problems or need for very high level performance, you can opt for the Eisa 2021 Kc62 premium compact subwoofer.

To improve sound definition and spatiality, as well as to reduce rumbles and vibrations, the definitive accessory for Emit 20 is notoriously constituted by the IsoAcoustics Aperta bookshelf speaker insulators. They can be used both with stands and on furniture.
