Kef R7 is the "middle" floorstanding speaker of the new R Series. Equipped with 2 x 165mm aluminum bass woofers and the famous Uni-Q coaxial driver - with 125mm midrange and aluminum dome tweeter 25 mm aligned - the R7 exceeds all expectations and tests in this price range, proving to be an ideal choice both in the most audiophile music listening and in multi-channel systems, to be really afraid while watching certain films ...
Kef R7 are the best HiFi floorstanding speakers for medium to large rooms
Kef R7 are the HiFi floorstanding loudspeakers par excellence of the Kef Premium series. R7 are placed between the entry R5 and the incredible top of the range Kef R11. The design of the various speakers in the range is the same. These R7s, while ensuring the same ease of insertion as the more compact model, have 165 mm woofers that allow them to go lower by 2 Hz, reaching 48 Hz in this case. Otherwise, the famous Uni-Q mid-high driver is the same, the twelfth edition of the famous Uni-Q by Kef.
The Kef R Series takes one of the most complete and beloved HiFi speaker lines in the world to a new level. The British engineers, even if benefited from previous studies, have started from scratch with this edition of the range, arriving at the end of the project to list as many as 1,043 individual changes compared to the previous line. The aesthetic and sound result is evident. The new R7s replace the previous R700s, greatly improving them from every point of view. This new R Series is completely new and draws heavily, for the first time, on the technology that generated the reference Kef series: Reference.
For the first time today, world-class High End performance is accessible at a fraction of the price at which these performances are usually offered. Within the reach of every enthusiast.

R7 offers the twelfth Uni-Q revolution
Maidstone engineers are not resting on their laurels and year after year they continue to improve the performance of their series relentlessly. With this line, Kef brings the famous Uni-Q patent to the twelfth edition and equips all models, including of course the R7 center-of-the-range floorstanding speaker. The key components of this Uni-Q are a 125mm midrange driver and a 25mm aluminum dome tweeter, as always grafted into each other to form a single body and a single final driver. In this Uni-Q every single internal component has been redesigned and the final result is an even more natural sound, devoid of colors, and with remarkable dynamics.
If we had to define the heart of the R7, this would be the Uni-Q. Tweeter and midrange, merged into the Uni-Q unit, allow the sound to be generated by a point-like emission source. As in reality, the notes of a voice, a piano, the guitar riffs will no longer come from two different drivers, no longer from different points of the same speaker! Thanks to Uni-Q the sound of the R7 will be more natural, more harmonious than ever. The philosophy behind this patent, which has been in development and refinement for almost 40 years now, is inspired by the basic physics of waves: this is why it offers the most accurate reproduction in existence. Any other technology that provides for the division of tweeters and midrange is necessarily "far from reality" and can only try to compensate for this distance with mechanical or software artifice.
Kef R7 is to all intents and purposes a High Fidelity floorstanding loudspeaker, like the rest of its series. For excellent sounding but more convenient, we recommend turning to the Q Series.
Woofer and Kef R7 speaker cabinet
R7, compared to the previous R700, brings with it completely new woofers. The punch is clearly stronger and the control even higher. In the new Kef R7 the drivers are able to reproduce exceptionally clean bass and have exactly double the excursion compared to the previous generation. The new 165mm woofers benefit from a completely new motor, now with very low distortion, new baskets and new even stiffer cones. The result is class-leading bass performance with power, depth, and even greater speed. R7 is perfect with any type of music, from rock to classical, from jazz to disco. This is because there is an absolute tonal neutrality, without emphasizing the bass or other frequencies. You will hear what was recorded, how it was recorded.
The use of compact drivers has allowed the cabinet to be extremely slender, with great benefits in aesthetic terms. Placing a pair of thin speakers in a living room is easier than two huge wooden speakers. At the same time, a cabinet with a reduced front interacts little with the listening environment or does not dirty its own sound.
The R7 cabinet was made using a new technique that alternates extremely rigid elements with damping joints. The result is a substantially inert chassis in which the new woofers and Uni-Q are ideally placed.
The Maidstone R7s, in essence, with reference to their market range and performance, are absolutely compact speakers and therefore easy to place in medium-sized rooms. They can be used with great satisfaction, as well as obviously in stereo and audiophile applications, in high-level Home Theater systems.
“The overall build quality is exceptional. The R Series models show a level of insight and detail resolution that goes far beyond that of most rivals. ” WHAT-HiFi
Shadow Flare
In the R7 loudspeakers, as in the whole new range, Kef has implemented a technology deriving from the first renowned Reference Series. Here the famous Tangerine Waveguide, or the wave guide offered by the Uni-Q, is supported by the innovative "Shadow Flare", the special outer ring that connects the driver to the rest of the cabinet seamlessly. The Shadow Flare was wanted and designed to drastically reduce the diffraction effects that are created in a speaker with classic shapes, with edges and edges. The combined use of Uni-Q and Shadow Flare allows the British manufacturer to produce a monolithic and elegant speaker, with an ultramodern design, which sounds like an ideal rounded speaker. This makes the sonic performance convincing and realistic and, above all, allows you to take sonic realism to the extreme without spending madness on elaborate cabinet shapes. In this way, without spending large resources on very expensive furniture to build, more resources are allocated where the sound is generated. This is how the extreme driver was born, the Kef R Series Uni-Q.
R7 is ideally sized for compact or medium-sized environments
The compact size of these speakers, combined with the perfect management of bass and reflex, makes them easy to place even in a small room, say 10 square meters. Up to about 30 m2 the R5 is absolutely perfect as a HiFi system. In addition, for rooms of 40 or 50 square meters, a reinforcement subwoofer or a speaker with a wider woofer is recommended. Of course R5 are also ideal as surround or side speakers in a high-level Atmos project.
"Kef's new patented grilles finally eliminate the classic MDF frame that compromises the performance of most speakers" - DIGITAL AF -
New patented Kef R7 grids
The brand new protective grilles of the R7 are, on their own, a masterpiece. Already patented, this front grille is created by the hot fusion of 13 different layers of composite materials. The result is a new type of ultra-thin, ultra-rigid and, a touch of class in Kef style, tone-on-tone with the diffuser finishes. The new protections of the Kef R7 are characterized by well 1,801 laser-made precision holes for each of the different drivers. Rigid, elegant, ultra-thin, magnetic, these innovative grilles are no longer a simple accessory but rather an integral element of the speaker, which enhances its sound and design characteristics.
The Kef R7 loudspeakers and the rest of the Series equip rear reflex ducts with flexible design. The reflex ports are positioned off-axis with respect to the drivers and are equipped with flexible walls in order to hinder the coloring of the medium frequencies. Thanks to this solution, the pressure inside the ducts will always be constant at any volume and frequency level and the speaker will return to the ear, more than ever, the pure sound of the artist.
Kef R range
Like the rest of the range, the new R7 are available in three refined finishes, the result of an aesthetic study by now paradigmatic of Kef's passion for art and design: glossy black piano lacquer, glossy white piano lacquer, real natural walnut . All the finishes, from the drivers to the feet to the shadow flares, are in tone-on-tone colors. Everything recalls the dominant color palette.
Tested and recommended amplifiers and cables
The Kef R7 floorstanding loudspeakers are Kef's central proposal for the R Series, that is the intermediate model of floorstanding loudspeaker. The level of neutrality, dynamics and soundstage delivered by the R7 is astounding. Another excellence is given by the enormous angular dispersion (the sound reaches all areas of interest) which allows you to listen perfectly not only in a specific point of the room, but in a large area. In order for the R7's premium features to emerge to their full potential we recommend pairing with neutral amplifiers, with good dynamics and good current control. These floorstanding speakers play well any type of music, with an always neutral response and a wide soundstage. Note, they need a good running-in to play at their best, but the final acoustic result is really rewarding and clearly superior to the previous floor model (R700). In terms of pairing with amplification, Kef officially offers Hegel amplifiers - extensively tested and validated with every Kef loudspeaker. In this case, the reference model is the H190, well calibrated on the R7.
