Description

Large floorstanding speakers for music and movies

The Dynaudio Emit 50 are floorstanding speakers… big! The audiophile-level technology and engineering of the top-of-the-range model of the Emit series offer “Audiophile Grade” HiFi performance at a price level that is also accessible to those who are taking their first steps in the world of high fidelity.

Dynaudio Emit 50 offers a level of power and refinement that, with any other international brand, costs twice as much. The dual 18cm woofers, 15cm midrange and 28mm Cerotar soft dome tweeter are specifically designed to ensure peak performance with the sharpest detail possible, even at true cinema volume.

High performance woofers

Let's start from the bottom: the Emit 50 woofers "dig" deep. The two 18cm units (the same type used in the Emit 20) use cascading technology from Dynaudio's high-end families: Evoke, Contour i and Confidence to deliver an astonishing performance, well above the previous Emit range. Basically a huge 36cm driver, but split into 2 smaller woofers that keep the cabinet compact in size.

The cones are made with the famous MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer) material developed in Dynaudio and obtained from a single block which also includes the dust dome. Making the driver cones from a single piece of material, instead of gluing and assembling them on a separate piece, gives the surface more rigidity and stability especially with the voice coil. And that means better control over their movement: less distortion and unwanted resonances, and finer detail, even in the lowest notes.

Unlike the other speakers in the series, the Emit 50's woofers use copper voice coils. This is because they don't need to be as "responsive" as when handling midrange frequencies (like on the Emit 20). A heavier copper was then used for a sharper and more exciting "punch". This is then maximized by the dual seat magnet system, optimized to direct all of its energy directly into the voice coil.

Clever crossover design

The crossover of the Dynaudio Emit 50 is defined as "hybrid design". It is composed of a traditional Dynaudio first order circuit for the tweeter, a second order design for the midrange driver and a fourth order topology for the woofers. Instead of creating a single design for all the drivers, Dynaudio preferred to customize each individual circuit so as not to compromise performance

Dedicated midrange driver

The midrange driver is a "different beast". Exclusive to the Dynaudio Emit 50, it derives from the version used in the Evoke range, which itself came directly from the high-end Contour i Series. It has a powerful ceramic ferrite magnet, a short version of the 38mm diameter aluminum voice coil (specifically optimized for mid-range performance) and a very lightweight casing. It's designed for speed and accuracy – exactly what you need to reproduce vocals, orchestral strings, wind instruments, detail and micro-information.

Tweeter Cerotar: how sweet these high frequencies are

The Dynaudio Emit 50's Cerotar tweeter is the same as the Evoke family. It's a core design that uses key technologies developed for the award-winning Special Forty, plus Confidence and even the Core range, professional reference studio monitors. Danish engineers are really proud of it, and we rightly add.

The 28mm Cerotar coated fabric soft dome diaphragm is physically mounted above another Dynaudio innovation: the Hexis. This ingenious internal dome with special “dimples” is positioned just behind the dome fabric in order to control and cancel unwanted resonances reflecting off the back of the membrane surface. This keeps the frequency response smooth for cleaner, sweeter, more detailed highs.

The tweeter is powered by a powerful ceramic ferrite + strontium carbonate magnet for increased sensitivity and stability. This translates, for the ears, into a more authentic performance: you hear exactly what the author intended you to hear; nothing more, nothing less. And because it feels so natural, it also reduces fatigue – ideal for long listening sessions.

Authentic Danish design

The cabinets were designed and tuned in-house in Denmark. They are constructed from 18mm MDF and internally damped with specially selected polyester material (the details, the details…) to make sure the drivers can work on the most stable and rigid structure possible.

You can choose from three finishes in black, white and walnut laminate; black magnetic grilles are standard. It will therefore be possible to "hide" (white finish on a white wall for example) or bring out (black finish with a white wall background, another example) the Dynaudio Emit speakers in your room according to your taste. Typical is the case in which you want to bring out the front speakers of a Home Cinema system and perhaps keep the surrounds less visible.

Whether you're starting a brand new high-end system from scratch or upgrading an existing system, the Dynaudio Emit 50's combination of power and finesse will take listening to your music and watching your favorite movies to a new level of performance.

Recommended amplifier, cables, accessories

If you are looking for a suitable amplifier to drive the Emit 50s, in a stereo system we recommend pairing it with Cyrus One (in one of three versions, depending on the type of listening and the preferred source: from analogue to streaming, to TV) or with Hegel H120.

Excellent audio cables, and commensurate for use with Dynaudio's Emits, are the Chord C-line or, if budget permits, the Clearway. We are talking about both signal cables with which to connect the various electronics and power cables between amplifier and speakers.

In stereo or multi-channel systems based on Emit, the use of Kube 10b or Kube 12b subwoofers is recommended (according to room size). In case of space problems or need for very high level performance, you can opt for the Eisa 2021 Kc62 premium compact subwoofer.

Lastly, the definitive accessory for equipping yourself with a superfine system is notoriously constituted by the Gaia 3 floor insulators (with correct screws already in the package) – which allow the speakers to literally take flight.
