Dynaudio Contour 60i is the top model of the renewed Contour i family for 2020. The name has been a cornerstone in the world of high-end HiFi loudspeakers for decades. With the Contour i range, Dynaudio now presents the result of an enormous work of research, development and refinement in the construction of handcrafted loudspeakers, in a series dedicated to premium users who seek the very best in terms of audio and design.

Today the 60i model incredibly improves the performance of the previous 60, with an even more musical and faithful tweeter, new more powerful and faster woofers, new baskets, new crossovers and an even more rigid and inert cabinet.

A whole new model

The Dynaudio Contour 60i loudspeakers are derived from the previous 60 model, but are completely new. Thanks to the "Finite Element Method (FEM)" technology, Dynaudio engineers have created each constituent element of the speaker, from scratch, using a sophisticated 3D modeling algorithm. As if to say that every piece of Contour 60i has been designed from the blank sheet to harmonize with the rest of the components, to sound better than any other speaker, euro against euro. Thanks to this approach – called Total Design – the final performances of Contour i are placed in the extreme range, in that area where personal tastes and micro facets come into play because all the fundamentals border on perfection. In the top model 60i, new Esotar 2i tweeters, new woofers, new baskets, new cabinet structure, new crossovers are presented. What has been the queen of the mid-High End segment in recent years is now undergoing an incredible internal restyling, aimed at further improving the already remarkable performance.

Contour 60i is the only model in the family to have a dedicated midrange driver. It uses an aluminum voice coil and also has a neodymium magnet system, all developed and optimized at Dynaudio Labs in Denmark. It is, in fact, the exact same midrange driver used in the 2016 Model 60. If it hasn't broken since then…

Esotar 2i: sovereign tweeter

Contour 60i is equipped with the brand new Esotar 2i, the latest evolution of the performance 28 mm Esotar2 soft dome tweeter, the heir of what has always been one of the best Drivers in the world: Esotar. Thanks to this new tweeter, the same in the whole Contour i family, the high frequency range will be really close to absolute perfection. Of course, perfection doesn't exist, it's an asymptote, but if it did it would be a friend of the Esotar 2i tweeter!

The new Esotar 2i features a larger rear chamber, which helps reduce unwanted resonances and flatten the response curve. On the other hand, here we only want true High Fidelity.

Thanks to this incredible component, heir to the one most revered by enthusiasts since the 1980s, the Contour 60i loudspeakers are able to express themselves with a wealth of nuances and absolute transparency.

To create the brand new Esotar 2i tweeter, the Esotar 2 of the 2016 Contours was thoroughly studied. It was disassembled, passed under a microscope and it was realized that a further boost could be given, with a bit of technology inherited from the Confidence line. The changes introduced help reduce unwanted resonances and flatten the frequency response for even more crystalline high-end performance.

New woofers: ultra controlled, long throw cannons

The Contour 60i's dual woofers are completely new. Each has an even larger magnet system than before and a different fiberglass voice coil design – a design first used in the Confidence range and Sub 6 subwoofer. This means even more controlled bass, and louder volume. In Contour i, copper was chosen over aluminum. Copper is heavier and provides more moving mass. More moving mass allows you to dig deeper without interfering with the midrange, which is handled by the brilliant dedicated driver. The dual 24 cm long excursion MSP woofer (older brother of the 18 cm drivers of the models that equip the Contour 20i and 30i) has been designed with a new coil system, much larger (by 24%) than the previous generation . A new double magnet mechanical system allows the woofer to move with unheard-of "torque" and staggering speed. Thanks to these new technologies, the excursion of the woofer has been increased by a staggering 70%, giving unparalleled strength and extension in the low frequencies. The end result is stage presence, AAA-level bass management. Hard to find better.

Contour 60i offers harmonized tweeters, mid-ranges, woofers, crossovers and cabinets

In the Contour 60i, between the Esotar 2i tweeter and woofer(s), the exclusive dedicated 15 cm mid-range speaker with neodymium voice coils has been inserted for a clear and precise reproduction of medium frequencies and vocals. This mid range was designed from the ground up exclusively for the 60i model. The rounded aluminum baffle (always a key element of the Contour) now consists of a single block of aluminum fixed inside the cabinet. In addition to guaranteeing a great aesthetic effect, this solution serves to reduce the internal resonances of the speaker. To harmonize the new (all, and all completely new) drivers, the crossover and internal wiring were designed from scratch. The end justifies the means and in the end the acoustics have rewarded the efforts. The rounded cabinet features a double reflex – it is designed to optimize the sound performance by minimizing internal resonances and vibrations.

The 60i are the ultimate in Stereo and Multichannel listening

The 60i are designed to give the maximum in any stereophonic system but they are naturally - for most - a dream choice also as the main speaker of a high-level multi-channel system, especially in large rooms where greater power is required and sound pressure. This set of speakers is perfect, even alone in stereophony, in rooms from 50 to 100 m2.

Intended for a demanding and refined audience, the new Dynaudio Contour 60i set new standards in home acoustic reproduction. The great value of these technical jewels lies in the ability not to characterize the original musical message in any way.

It goes without saying that to obtain maximum performance the 60i, as passive loudspeakers, need high-level electronics. Whether it is a transistor or tube amplification, whether a digital or analog source is used, the important thing is to pay attention to the coupling.
