ATC SCM100 – the floor standing loudspeaker from the Classic Series

ATC's SCM100 are the intermediate model of the Classic Series 3-way floorstanding loudspeakers with stands, available in the passive SCM100 SL or active SCM100 ASL version. This loudspeaker is a reference model in the range of products of the English brand: all components are handmade and represent the best of loudspeaker and electronic technology available on the market today.

The 25mm soft dome tweeter benefits from a unique doped polyester double suspension design, which adds a secondary suspension to provide greater linearity and suppress unwanted oscillation modes, promoting greater control.

The monitors ability to reproduce music and speech with phenomenal clarity, detail and dynamics lies primarily in the 75mm soft dome midrange.

The performance of the 314mm woofer with a large 75mm voice coil and powerful short-coil motor is equally impressive. This driver features ATC's SL – Super Linear – technology which drastically reduces the distortion typical of moving-winding drivers by 12-15dB (third harmonic).

In the passive version – SCM100 SL – the second order crossover uses oversized air chokes to handle two crossing points at 380Hz and 3.5kHz.

To get the right control, we recommend the SIA2-150 integrated amplifier or the P2 power amplifier of the same brand. For those looking for dynamics, musicality and detail, we recommend the H390 integrated amplifier, but for maximum driver control we recommend the top of the range H590.

Among the power amps we recommend Hegel's H30A, Cyrus' Mono X 300 Signature, or Chord Electronics' Ultima 5 and higher power amps.

In the active version – SCM100 ASL – instead, the active crossover consists of an electronically balanced input stage, characterized by a high bandwidth and a very high common mode rejection. Connection is via XLR only, as befits a speaker that comes from the studio world.

The audio signal is managed by 3 dedicated MOSFET amplifier modules, one for each driver: 50W for the tweeter, 100W for the midrange and 200W for the woofer, for a total of 350W. In this way, the loudspeaker is able to reproduce the sound in an even more detailed and precise way, without any distortion or loss of quality.

The ideal combination is with the extraordinary preamplifiers of ATC itself: CA2, CDA2 or the top of the range SCA2. Alternatively, the Chord Electronics electronics can surprise you with the level of detail and clarity offered also thanks to the famous proprietary technologies integrated in their DACs – such as Hugo TT2 and Dave – or with the Prima and Ultima Pre 3 preamplifiers. As an alternative, we recommend the electronics of Hegel, in particular the reference preamplifier P30A or the smaller P20.

In line with the qualities of this extraordinary loudspeaker, we recommend cables from the Chord Company Signature line, with a typically transparent and analytical timbre, capable of excellent signal transmission quality and excellent interference shielding.

Design

Derived from the studio range, the ATC SCM100 loudspeakers have been developed to provide accurate and natural sound, without any coloration or distortion. This makes them ideal for faithfully reproducing any type of music, from classical to rock, jazz, pop and more.

Thanks to advanced design technologies, the SCM100 loudspeakers are able to reproduce an extremely precise and detailed sound, with an extremely wide frequency response and a great power handling capacity.

The SCM100 cabinet is massive, solid and inert, and integrates bitumen damping placed at critical points to minimize cabinet response.

The speakers are supplied with 20cm stands and fabric covered grilles.
