AUTOMAT technology

It has a completely automatic start / stop, but the automatisms are completely deactivated during the whole operating time of the disc side. The fully mechanical automatism is engaged when you press start and the tonearm is automatically moved into the first groove of the record. During playback, the automatism is completely deactivated and does not affect the quality of the reproduction, the free movement of the arm and the platter in the least! And since the automatisms are mechanical only, without the need for additional electronics, they do not affect or degrade the sound quality during playback!

Rigid frame in MDF

The rigid wooden frame, as it is worked, avoids empty spaces inside the base, with just enough space to accurately insert all the internal mechanisms of the A1. As a result, the chassis feels very heavy, minimizing unwanted resonances and decoupling the Pro-Ject A1 from external vibrations.

Damped aluminum platter

The aluminum platter is made entirely in Germany. There are three stages of processing; it is first printed, folded and perforated. Subsequently, a silicone damping ring is inserted peripherally inside, to increase its weight and reduce resonances. Finally, it is then precisely balanced to minimize wow and flutter and painted, contributing to the sober and elegant look of the Pro-Ject A1 turntable.

Perfect speed, phono preamp, cable

As with many Pro-Ject turntables, the motor speed is electronically controlled. By simply pressing a button you can easily switch from 33 to 45 rpm. The integrated phono preamp also makes the A1 incredibly versatile and allows you to connect it directly to any line input or to a phono input. Included with the A1 is the Connect it E phono cable. It is a semi-balanced, low capacity, shielded cable, further added value in this price range.

New silicon dampened feet

The new feet effectively decouple the turntable from the surface it rests on using an internal silicone damping layer. This is an essential feature for any good turntable as it is a further guarantee that vinyl playback is unaffected by external interference and resonance.

Low mass aluminum arm

The Pro-Ject A1 features an 8.3 "low mass aluminum tonearm. The cartridge supplied is the Ortofon OM10, which fits neatly into the tonearm providing an extraordinarily fast and detailed response in terms of transients and microdynamics. The peculiarity of the OM series from Ortofon lies precisely in the fact that it has been designed for low mass arms. The tracking force and anti-skating are preset in the factory, which makes the A1 plug & play ready to go in seconds This makes it perfect for both newbies and experienced listeners, offering both audiophile sound quality.

Non-magnetic headshell, reinforced with carbon fiber

The headshell has a completely new design for the Pro-Ject, developed exclusively for the A1. It is made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer which makes it particularly stable and rigid, while maintaining a minimum weight to interface perfectly with the low mass arm design. The polymer / carbon composite material is also excellent in damping internal resonances.

Handmade in Germany

The Pro-Ject A1 is completely handcrafted in Germany and is based on decades of turntable manufacturing experience. Assembled and finely tuned by some of the best engineers in the business. All the individual components of the A1 are also 98-99% manufactured and produced in Germany, in-house and in the immediate vicinity of the factory. The whole region is so steeped in turntable tradition that it all translates into unique quality and products. Pro-Ject is proud to use this know-how to set new manufacturing standards for automatic turntables. A1 is the start of a new Pro-Ject category.
