At the heart of the Optimum are three silver-plated Ohno Continuous Cast (OCC) copper conductors, with each conductor strand having a square configuration for tighter bundling. OCC offers a far superior level of purity with outstanding electrical conductivity, increased flexibility, fatigue and corrosion resistance.
A high quality FEP provides a very low dielectric constant over a wide range of frequencies. The three conductors are given a slight rotational twist to assist in rejection of RFI and EMI, and are then surrounded by a cotton filler which imparts internal strength and reduces microphonics. The entire construction is enclosed in a Mylar casing to provide an additional dielectric buffer, before applying an active OFC shield for maximum rejection of high frequency interference. A tough PVC outer jacket offers a high degree of flexibility and mechanical strength.
CHARACTERISTICS
CONSTRUCTION: Conductors are in parallel configuration with a slight rotational twist. This proven technique remains the first line of defense against RFI and EMI rejection.
A) Conductors: 3.0 sqmm silver plated continuous cast Ohno copper conductors offer a far higher level of purity than traditional OFC. Each conductor strand has an innovative square-shaped configuration. The geometry and metallurgy used in this construction offer superb performance with extremely impressive electrical conductivity.
B) Dielectric: Teflon FEP dielectric (insulator) is chemically inert and has a very low dielectric constant over a wide range of frequencies. FEP possesses a very high degree of resistance to stress cracking and a low coefficient of friction making it an outstanding dielectric. FEP is the first choice for safety both in terms of temperature and electrical insulation.
C) Filler: Cotton filler was used to impart internal strength to the cable and reduce microphonics. Cotton also has excellent dielectric properties, the best of any solid material.
D) Wrap: A Mylar wrap is used to secure the construction and offer a barrier shield before a flexible PVC liner is applied. The addition of the Mylar and cotton forms a buffer with the PVC so as to maintain exceptional dielectric properties.
E) Shielding: A grounded OFC shield ensures maximum RFI rejection, thus preventing common-mode noise affecting the active and neutral conductors.
F) Sheath: PVC is used as the outer sheath to give a high degree of flexibility and mechanical resistance.
TERMINATION: The Optimum cable is terminated using IsoTek's custom audiophile connectors of solid OFC with 24 karat gold plated conductors. These offer a very high quality performance and are less prone to tarnishing.
