The XTRM version of the Blizzard power cable differs from its Blizzard sibling in that it is terminated with higher-quality 'De Luxe' connectors, belonging to the Mistral series, which guarantee a superior connection to both the conductors and the connected electronics, optimal for obtaining better conductivity for maximum performance. The Mistral series connectors are in fact made of a thick layer of silver over red copper and beryllium copper. The Audioquest Blizzard XTRM is therefore a cable that has an extra dose of high-end components, useful for putting the finishing touches on definition and detail to the equipment to which they are connected. It can be used for high-power consumption components such as a high-end amplifier stage, as well as for moderately demanding components such as a turntable. This cable offers surprising performance for the price at which it is offered, and one of the merits of this is given by the ZERO (No) characteristic impedance and the patented background noise dissipation technologies. The former allows for uncompressed current transfer, while the latter prevents noise-induced transient intermodulation distortion. Blizzard XTRM cable then uses only pure, perfectly smooth-surface copper (PSC+) for its conductors, which are of a larger cross-section than Blizzard smooth, ensuring excellent signal transmission and greatly reduced distortion. These are true concentric conductors in which the outer layer is spirally wound in the opposite direction to the underlying layer, improving mechanical stability and decreasing electrical contact. All stranded or drawn metal conductors have a non-symmetrical and therefore directional grain structure. Audioquest controls the resulting RF impedance change so that noise is drained away from where it will cause distortion. For most AQ cable models, the arrows not only indicate the direction that optimizes the directionality of the metal as part of noise dissipation, but also indicate the non-symmetrical connection of shield and GND in order to optimize the performance of the entire system. Complementing the package is Audioquest's patented DBS dielectric system, which creates a strong, stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the insulation molecules. This minimizes nonlinear time delays, resulting in clearer sound emerging from a "blacker" background. The inclusion of an RF trap (a technology developed for Audioquest's Niagara Series power products) in the DBS battery pack further reduces radio frequency noise.
