ATC SCM50 - PAIR

SCM50 by ATC are the 3-way floorstanding loudspeakers with stands of the Classic Series, available in the passive SCM50 SL or active SCM50 ASL version.

ATC SCM50 is a high-level loudspeaker designed and manufactured by the British company ATC – Acoustic Transducer Company. This loudspeaker is a reference model in the range of products of the English brand: all components are handmade and represent the best of loudspeaker and electronic technology available on the market today.

The 25mm soft dome tweeter benefits from a unique doped polyester double suspension design, which adds a secondary suspension to provide greater linearity and suppress unwanted oscillation modes, promoting greater control. The monitors ability to reproduce music and speech with extreme detail, clarity and phenomenal dynamics lies primarily in the 75mm soft dome midrange.

The 234 mm woofer with a large 75 mm voice coil and a powerful Short-coil motor, is equipped with ATC's SL – Super Linear – technology which drastically reduces the typical distortion of moving winding drivers by 12-15dB (third harmonic ).

In the passive version, the second order crossover with oversized air inductors locates two crossing points at 380 Hz and 3.5 kHz.

To get the right control, we recommend the SIA2-100 integrated amplifier or the P1 dual-mono power amp from the same brand. For those looking for dynamics, musicality and detail, we recommend the H390 integrated amplifier. Lyngdorf's integrated TDAI-3400, in addition to extreme versatility in terms of connectivity, offers room acoustic correction through the Room Perfect processor. Among the power amps we recommend the H20 by Hegel, the Stereo 200 by Cyrus, or the Ultima 6 or Ultima 5 power amps by Chord Electronics.

The Active SCM50A version

In the version with integrated amplification – SCM50 ASL – the active crossover consists of an electronically balanced and wide bandwidth input stage, with high common mode rejection and very low distortion. Connection is via XLR only, as befits a speaker that comes from the studio world.

The signal is managed by 3 dedicated MOSFET amplifier modules for each individual driver: 50W for the tweeter, 100W for the midrange and 200W for the woofer, for a total of 350W. In this way, the speaker is able to reproduce the sound in an even more detailed and precise way, without any distortion or loss of quality.

To squeeze out the maximum performance, we recommend the combination with the preamplifiers of the same brand, such as the CA2, the CDA2 or the absolute reference SCA2. Chord Electronics electronics are a viable alternative to proprietary technologies built into their DACs, such as the Hugo TT2 and Dave, or the standalone Prima and Ultima Pre 3 preamps are excellent choices. Another option to consider are Hegel electronics, including the P30A reference preamplifier or the smaller P20.

In line with the qualities of this extraordinary loudspeaker, we recommend cables from the Chord Company Signature line, with a typically neutral and analytical timbre, uniform over the entire frequency spectrum, famous for their excellent signal transmission quality and the essential shielding for counter electromagnetic interference.

Design

SCM50 is a perfect analytical loudspeaker for the reproduction of acoustic or Rock music, with a perfect orographic reproduction of voices and instruments, and their strong point is in the dynamic detail.

Using advanced design technology, ATC's SCM50 loudspeakers deliver highly accurate and detailed audio reproduction, with a wide frequency response and impressive power handling capability.

These speakers have been developed from the range of speakers used in recording studios to provide accurate and natural sound, without unwanted coloration or distortion. This feature makes the SCM50 loudspeakers ideal for the faithful reproduction of all musical genres, from classical to rock, from jazz to pop and much more.

The cabinet is massive, solid and inert, and integrates bitumen damping placed at critical points to minimize cabinet response. The Clear High Glossed Veneer, Piano Black, Piano White finishes are available upon request.

The speakers are supplied with 25cm stands and fabric covered grilles.
