Description

Dynaudio Evoke 50 are the top of the range HiFi floorstanding loudspeakers

If a pair of Evoke 50s in a room isn't a true declaration of love for music then we don't know what is! Use them in stereo. Use them as part of a multi-channel Home Cinema system. However you listen to them, the word "epic" could give a good idea of the result..

The Dynaudio Evoke 50 are truly remarkable floorstanding loudspeakers, featuring a three-way configuration with a 28mm soft dome tweeter, a 15cm neodymium midrange driver and two impressive 18cm woofers.

Evoke 50 introduces Dynaudio's new tweeter: Cerotar. It's a brand new, completely new design. Cerotar uses the key technologies of the award-winning Esotar Forty anniversary tweeter, the fantastic new Contour series and even draws on the cornucopia of technical inventions, capable of sounding everything to its best and entertaining all … aka the new Confidence! Dynaudio engineers gloat when they think of the new born Cerotar, they are very proud indeed. As they should be.

A great fund

Down below are two 18cm Esotec woofers. Like the Cerotar tweeter, these innovative woofers use cascading technology from the Contour and Confidence families to bring as much high-end DNA as possible to Evoke.

The woofers are made with the proprietary material, MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer), used in our cones for decades. Dynaudio has not yet found anything that strikes a better balance between lightness, stiffness and damping. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, as the British say! It means that the material used by Dynaudio is the best ever tested in 40 years of research.

While the Evoke 20 pedestal speaker uses aluminum in its 18cm woofer, the Evoke 50 uses copper. This is because they are true bass drivers: not needing the characteristic agility of a midrange unit, it is possible to use pure copper to increase the moving mass. The 0.4mm diaphragm is the same as the ceramic magnet with Ferrite+. That means power and detail. It is just one of the solutions obtained through an in-depth analysis and simulation in Jupiter's famous measurement facility.

Each speaker cone is crafted from a single piece of MSP. This leads to perfect stiffness – and also means far less distortion when they're playing. This structure provides an ultra-strong physical connection to the fiberglass voice coil on the back, meaning more of the voice coil's motion energy is transferred to the diaphragm. But what does it mean for you? Your music, via the volume knob on your amplifier, will have direct impact on the woofers. Speed, immediacy, control, balance, reliability, power: these are the new Dynaudio Esotec woofers.

Nomex baskets keep the drivers absolutely centered while the new contour derived from Contour allows them more travel, for greater impact.

For added versatility, if you're rearranging your room or moving house, for example, the rear bass ports feature two-piece foam plugs. These offer three levels of tuning: fully open, semi-open and fully closed, so you can tailor the bass performance of the speakers to their location and room.

Dedicated midrange

Evoke 50 is the only speaker in the family to have a dedicated midrange driver, so the engineers at Dynaudio Labs decided to make it a little bit special. The 15cm unit they have chosen is derived directly from the exclusive Contour range – meaning a powerful neodymium magnet, a thin 0.4mm diaphragm and a glass fiber voice coil with a Dynaudio aluminum wound .

Now: why neodymium and not ferrite + used in woofers? Because it's light and it's powerful. Why aluminum and not copper? Again, because it's light (and allows us to fit more windings into the voice coil for a given weight). This is a combination that gives the whole incredible control over how the driver responds.

The joint response of woofer, midrange and tweeter is unparalleled. Only Dynaudio, with a team of over 500 people in Denmark, with fluid dynamics, with Jupiter, with both "everything in house" manufacturing, can go that far.

In fact, the Evoke team has done such a good job of getting Contour-series level performance out of this midrange driver.

A simple and honest style

Creating a speaker that big without making it feel bulky and boxy is no mean feat, but lead designer Louise Dalgaard rose to the challenge. And then she threw him out of the ring! Evoke 50 was the first in the range to be built exactly as intended, going from paper, to 3D modeling program, to clay model, to full MDF prototype and finally to “The Real Thing”.

Louise and her team were adamant that Evoke 50 should be built for real homes and real lives. They have drawn inspiration from furniture design, the windows of the best interior design stores, the most beautiful showrooms and have even peeked into the homes of many real-life collaborators to get the look just right.
