DYNAUDIO SUB 3

Dynaudio Sub 3 is a flexible, authoritative subwoofer with a significant physical weight, designed to work at its best both when watching a movie and when listening to music. The components and construction at the level of the Contour series make the compact Sub 3, with its double front diaphragm and the new 24 cm driver, the ideal subwoofer for any stereo or multi-channel system.

A compact subwoofer with high-end performance

Dynaudio Sub 3 is a very authoritative active subwoofer, flexible but with a significant – physical – weight. It was designed to provide the right punch both within the classic stereo configurations for listening to music and when watching a movie.

Despite its small size, in fact, the performance remains at the highest level. The historic Danish HiFi company has created this speaker by leveraging the best features of the best-selling subwoofers, from which ours has inherited compactness and functionality.

But Dynaudio Sub 3 also brings with it a breath of fresh air, starting with the 37 mm front panel. Similar to that of the Contour i Series in both aesthetics and design, it is composed of two overlapping layers to increase its rigidity. It is also equipped - also designed with the same production principles as the Contour range - with a new 24 cm driver in MSP, Dynaudio's proprietary technology that combines the ideal ratio between rigidity and lightness, allowing the woofer to respond quickly and precisely to changes in dynamics. The cone is modeled from a single piece, so as to allow uniform dispersion of the sound and low distortion.

The performance of Sub 3 derives from Dynaudio's experience in recording studios around the world and makes this subwoofer perfect for quality stereo applications, as well as for Home Cinema systems.

Dynaudio Sub 3 is based on a powerful amplifier

The amplification module integrated in the Sub 3 model is equivalent to the one mounted on the previous reference model Sub 600. This 300 W integrated amplifier in class D has optimal characteristics for both Home Cinema and Hi-Fi listening, offering the right levels of power and control. In fact, it has both traditional line inputs and LFE for Audio-Video receivers.

On the rear panel of the sub, in addition to the phase control, gain and auto stand-by mode, we find the possibility of adjusting the crossover frequency, from 50 to 150 Hz. There is also a very useful feature if your preamplifier does not have a dedicated output for the subwoofer: it is possible to manage the low frequencies by passing the overall signal inside the Sub 3 and via the SAT OUT output connect the power amplifier that drives the speakers. The internal high-pass filter (adjustable) will manage the crossover.

Finally, if you want to use more than one sub, the subwoofers can be daisy-chained via the Slave function: the first sub will control the volume on all the others.

Handcrafted driver

This Sub 3 is a perfect match. any system, its 24 cm MSP woofer is derived from the Contour line, with exactly the same level of performance, but tonally it is the ideal complement to any line of the Danish brand: from the entry level Emit, through Evoke, up to the new high-end active systems Focus.

Extension and SPL are both significantly improved compared to the previous Sub 250 II, having also eliminated the need for a separate dust cap, the structural integrity of the cone has been improved.

Sound reproduction

The Dynaudio Sub 3 was designed with sound quality in mind. It can certainly shake an entire apartment, but the strength of this sub is in creating lifelike bass with great precision, control and refinement. and despite its truly compact dimensions it sinks to the incredible frequency of 22 Hz.

In fact it is able to offer a performance that defies its size: it is the right complement in refined Hi-Fi systems with a smooth, precise and musical response, but it is also capable – when needed – of an authoritative and powerful character for the most gripping scenes of films.

This sub can provide delicate details at low frequencies, but also deep bass at high volumes without any distortion. therefore from the pizzicato of the double bass to the slappata metal.

Design

The compact cabinet of Dynaudio Sub 3 incorporates a curved front diaphragm design in MDF, where the curve of the speaker frame is integrated into the baffle (similar precisely to Contour).

It is tuned in a closed box thus allowing it to be safely placed against a wall or in a corner, and is available in two classic finishes: black and satin white.

Thanks to all the adjustment possibilities, the high quality of the design and the elegance of the Sub 3, in addition to being truly precise and transparent, it can be inserted without problems in any point of the room, combined with any type of furniture and with any system – even high-end ones.
