The greatest quality of a cable should be its inaudible sonic signature; the best cable is, in fact, one that isn't there. While this may seem trivial, in reality, only a few can boast this quality, and among them is the Dragon, the top-of-the-line model in Audioquest's Storm series. The Audioquest Dragon high-current power cable is the pinnacle of the brand's design and construction, capable of ensuring, thanks to a near-total reduction in background noise, unlimited dynamics, superb detail, and unparalleled soundstage reconstruction, thus achieving truly reference-level performance. All Storm series cables are created using the same technology, with individual models differing only in the material composition of their directionally controlled conductors. The Dragon is crafted from the finest materials, primarily pure perfect-surface silver (PSS) and smooth-surface copper (PSC+). According to AQ, the interaction of copper and silver conductors counteracts intermodulation distortion, a major source of listening fatigue. Furthermore, silver reacts differently at higher frequencies, resulting in a smoother, more open sound. This cable features the most advanced technology for dissipating background noise through the patented Dielectric-Bias System (DBS), which creates a continuous dielectric field within the cable's insulation. According to Audioquest, this provides greater bandwidth and helps remove noise, while also ensuring the cable remains live, thus constantly performing at its full potential. Finally, it's worth noting that the Dragon is rated Zero (No) Impedance. Power amplifiers pose a real challenge for any power source, as transient current requirements (although short-duration) can be many times greater than the average (RMS) current consumption. Furthermore, amplifiers' current draw is dynamic, not constant, and varies with the volume and content of the audio signal. While many power cables may feature low resistance to meet some of these requirements, the cable's characteristic impedance is equally responsible for ensuring uncompromising performance. Many cables restrict or compress the signal flow because their characteristic impedance limits transient current.
