SourcePoint 8 are monitor speakers created by the pencil of Andrew Jones for MoFi Electronics and derived from the SourcePoint 10 reference model. They are designed to maintain the same acoustic DNA, offering the same performance in a more compact cabinet to fit even in smaller rooms. The concept behind it is the same as the superior model: a large 8-inch 2-way concentric driver – hence the name – capable of giving the right amount of punch.

The 20cm diameter of the woofer has been chosen as the ideal size to minimize cone movement and produce deep bass. MoFi has created a new proprietary suspension - specially corrugated - and shaped the cone from a mixture of paper and cellulose pulp in order to optimize the resonance behavior and the waveguide requirements of the tweeter.

The 3cm soft dome tweeter has a large diameter voice coil and the wide suspension is capable of extending the tweeter response at both low and high frequencies. The waveguide increases the efficiency of the tweeter's lower range thus bringing the crossover point to 1.6 kHz.

The innovative Twin-Drive system creates a fully symmetrical magnetic field with high flux neodymium magnets that moves the SourcePoint 8 drivers, not only optimizes the response of the woofer and tweeter, but is designed to guarantee extremely low distortion values of intermodulation (IMD) and an extremely coherent response across the entire operating spectrum.

The design of this speaker aims at the audiophile ideal of the point source and manages to offer impeccable control, great tonal balance and detailed sound imaging.

A look at the 70s look

From classic chamber music to aggressive style electronic music, SourcePoint 8 delivers a jaw-dropping performance that captivates the listener and delivers pure emotion. They reproduce any recording with astonishing detail and clarity, while delivering the liveliness and dynamics of a larger speaker.

Enormous care has also been given to the design. The faceted front baffle approximately 4cm (1.5”) thick is carefully sculpted to reduce diffraction and improve sound quality.

The 70s-inspired cabinet is of the Bass Reflex type – with two Bass Reflex ports in the rear – and is made with 1.9 cm (3/4”) thick MDF panels and to offer greater internal stiffness are integrated two additional reinforcements. The external finish is made of real wood available in satin walnut or black ash, or in the satin white finish; A black acoustic fabric magnetic grille is included.

The large-volume internal volume provides the desired combination of low-frequency extension and efficiency: low-frequency extension down to 47Hz, sensitivity of 87dB, and impedance of 8 ohms true with a minimum of 6.4 ohms. In summary, SourcePoint 8 is extremely easy to fly.

The crossover frequency between the 20 cm woofer and the 3 cm tweeter is fixed at 1600 Hz. Thanks to the coaxial design of the two drivers, aligned in the time domain and in the phase, the rendering is extremely linear and the sound image is holographic and of astounding consistency.

To optimize the acoustic performance of these speakers, a dedicated 60 cm high 3-column stand was created to optimize the tweeter-ear alignment. The Stands for SourcePoint 8 are extremely massive and robust.

To further improve the setup, we recommend placing a set of 4 Orea Bronze isolators by IsoAcoustics under the base of the speakers, capable of managing vibrations to ensure a clearer and more detailed sound image.

Amplification recommended

To exploit the full potential of these extraordinary speakers, it is good to refer to quality amplifiers. An ideal partner is undoubtedly Hegel's integrated amplifiers, thanks to their natural and transparent sound: in particular, the H95 entry-level model is the ideal partner, but those who want more power - and therefore less distortion - the reference model is the H120.
