The MoFi SourcePoint 888 are high-end floorstanding loudspeakers designed by Andrew Jones to deliver an engaging listening experience characterized by extended bass response, dynamics, precision and naturalness. As an evolution of the SourcePoint family, the 888 combines a sophisticated 3-way design with a concentric driver and two dedicated 8-inch woofers, delivering a broad, deep and immersive presentation.

The project was developed to further increase the scale and sonic impact of the SourcePoint series while maintaining MoFi Electronics' distinctive focus on tonal coherence and faithful reproduction of recorded music.

A 3-Way Design Developed by Andrew Jones

The heart of the SourcePoint 888 is its 3-way design, developed to combine the scale and impact of the low frequencies with the precision of the midrange and the natural character of the high frequencies.

The concentric driver integrates an 8-inch paper cone midrange with a 1.25-inch soft-dome tweeter. This configuration keeps the midrange and high-frequency sources on the same axis, promoting consistent dispersion and a coherent soundstage.

Completing the system are two 8-inch woofers, also featuring paper cones, designed to provide greater acoustic pressure, extension and control in the low-frequency range.

Deep Bass and Exceptional Dynamics

The configuration with three 8-inch drivers allows the SourcePoint 888 to achieve impressive low-frequency extension, with a specified response down to 32 Hz.

The bass-reflex cabinet, equipped with two rear ports, has been developed to increase low-frequency efficiency without compromising the natural character of the presentation. The result is a loudspeaker capable of handling everything from large orchestral performances to recordings with powerful rhythmic and electronic content.

Concentric Driver and Controlled Dispersion

The concentric driver technology is one of the defining elements of the SourcePoint design. Integrating the midrange and tweeter on the same axis helps create a more coherent acoustic source, with controlled dispersion and a natural transition between frequencies.

This configuration is particularly important when reproducing vocals and acoustic instruments, where accurate reconstruction of the position and dimensions of sound sources contributes to a convincing and realistic soundstage.

Cabinet Designed for Diffraction Control

The SourcePoint 888 cabinet uses MDF panels with internal bracing, designed to increase structural rigidity and help control cabinet resonances.

The distinctive multi-faceted front baffle has been engineered to reduce diffraction at the cabinet edges. This geometry allows the drivers to operate under more controlled acoustic conditions, promoting a more linear response and improved soundstage reconstruction.

Elegant Finishes and Magnetic Grilles

The MoFi SourcePoint 888 combines a high-level technical design with an appearance intended to integrate easily into both modern and traditional interiors. The cabinet uses high-quality real wood veneer, with carefully selected grain patterns that are mirror-matched between the left and right loudspeakers.

Available finishes include Satin Walnut, Satin Black Ash and the distinctive Satin White Ash. The front baffle features a satin black finish, while the fabric-covered magnetic grilles can be installed or removed quickly without traditional mounting hardware.

Power Handling and Amplifier Matching

With a sensitivity of 87 dB and a nominal impedance of 6 Ohms, the SourcePoint 888 is designed to work with a wide range of Hi-Fi amplifiers. Its stated 200 W maximum power handling also allows the loudspeaker to take full advantage of its dynamic capabilities when paired with an appropriately powerful amplifier.

The minimum impedance of 4.5 Ohms nevertheless makes an amplifier with good current-delivery capability advisable, particularly when high sound-pressure levels are required.
