A good shielded power cable makes a lot of difference, especially in HiFi. Everything starts from the current. Whatever the conditions at the origin, i.e. at the electrical socket on the wall, from then on it is the responsibility of every good audiophile to do everything possible to mitigate or possibly improve the current that powers their HiFi and AudioVideo devices. Precisely because you do not know the state - which is continuously variable - of your electricity network, you must pay maximum attention downstream of the wall socket. A good power cable must possibly, within the limits of physics but without leaving anything to chance, improve the stability of the current, not generate (as an antenna) electromagnetic fields and, symmetrically, not suffer the fields in which it is embedded. The task is not trivial. Our rooms are totally saturated with electromagnetic fields caused by all connected equipment and every conductor through which current passes.

A good shielded power cable must remain as immune as possible from its surroundings and must electromagnetically pollute as little as possible. The power cables produced in Holland by Essential Audio Tools – EAT – under very strict standards, are double shielded and are perfect for use in the HiFi, AudioVideo and High End sectors.

A shielded power cable is not disturbed by nearby devices and does not disturb them in return.

Operating principle of power cables

Without realizing it we live in a very polluted environment. Everywhere around us infinite electromagnetic fields arise from currents flowing through conductors, signals from radio stations/cell phones and other communications networks. Electromagnetic interference is not visible to us, it is just there. Every device that uses energy causes fluctuations on the electrical network in the form of peaks or overvoltages and a variation of electromagnetic fields in the air. The effects occur around the devices themselves and on their mains power supply, but even far from the various devices the fields are still measurable. This is an established fact. Electromagnetic fields permeate our lives. We do not see or perceive them but every electrical conductor is heavily influenced by them.

A shielded power cable is not disturbed and does not disturb

Common thinking is that shielded power cables better protect connected devices from external influences, and this is true. But much more important is that the field created by the fluctuating current inside the power cable itself does not reach the rest of the neighboring equipment. Interlinks carry small signals to audio devices with high input resistance. This high input resistance makes equipment extremely sensitive to interference.

A high-quality recording with an average low volume and high dynamics will benefit most from the reduced background noise

Double shielding

Many HiFi power cables are very nice, just like these ones from Essential Audio Tools. But looks aren't everything! The current conductor used in these current cables receive a double shielding. The external shield is NOT braided steel because a steel shield does not act as a shield but only serves the purpose of protecting the cable mechanically. Here the current conductors feature a high-density braided copper shield with tin protection against oxidation. Under the tinned copper shield is 100% closed aluminum foil to ensure maximum suppression of high frequencies. This solution works exceptionally.

Phase connection of the power cable

All power cords manufactured by Essential Audio Tools are marked with a red dot to indicate phase. So

the red dot on the cable indicates the phase and must be connected to the phase pin of your wall socket. You can use a phase indicator such as the Sound Saver EAT to check the correct contact of the wall power socket. If you have the Mains Multiplier 8, you do not need to check the phase. Interesting to note, for those who are also looking for a multiple power strip, the EAT 8-plug power strip has an integrated phase indicator.

Oxygen prime copper conductors

The Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) stranded wires used in all Essential Audio Tools cables are capable of carrying high currents without resistive losses (energy losses in the form of heat). The ground wire is connected on both sides of the terminations while the shield is connected only on the power side, as it should be.

Plug made from solid metal

The eye wants its part. To meet the most stringent quality requirements, guarantee eternal durability and make the product indestructible and highly desirable, the wall plug of all EAT power cables is equipped with a very robust metal cap machined from solid with CNC machines. There is no more refined product.
