GRADE – STATEMENT New X series
Continuing over two decades of design for one of the most important headphones, the now hybrid GS1000x reaches new heights when paired with X Drivers, new cables and, for the first time, a combination of mahogany wood and ipê.
Grado has been working with mahogany longer than any other wood, it's a skill honed for generations. The materiality of the GS1000x goes even further now that it is combined with ipê wood, a resistant tropical wood that goes surprisingly well with mahogany. This combination elevates the signature sound of the GS1000x. Mahogany exudes warm tones, while ipê serves as a sturdy foundation for any sound that passes through its grain.
A journey into the music and listening to the space between the instruments thanks to the unique soundstage of the GS1000x. This is only possible when the large cushions, 50mm driver, 12-conductor cable and large housing work in unison.
The GS1000x is the first full-bodied headphone to take advantage of larger 50mm X drivers. This new speaker design, specifically designed to enhance the warmth produced by mahogany, features a more powerful magnetic circuit, a voice coil with reduced effective mass and a reconfigured diaphragm. Re-engineering these components for the 50mm drivers improves efficiency, reduces distortion and preserves the harmonic integrity of the music.
In addition to the speakers, the cables and headband have also been redesigned for the GS1000x. Housed in a more durable casing, the 12-conductor super annealed copper cable reveals even more of your music, with greater purity. The new black leather headband features a white stitched accent.
The first wooden Grado headphones were built in the middle of the night in 1994 by John Grado. Since then, wood has been a fundamental element of the workbench. Each headphone is hand-built by the Brooklyn team—these headphones go from workbench to workbench until they're ready for your ears.
