CYRUS CDT-XR – THE NEW REFERENCE TRANSPORT CD

The Cyrus CDt-XR has been redesigned as the reference CD transport, building on the legacy and long history of the Cyrus CDt and Cyrus CD XT Signature models, but incorporating many new technologies developed in-house by Cyrus in recent years. Housed within the iconic half-width chassis, the Cyrus CDt-XR rises above existing CDi and CDt models, offering a substantial performance upgrade in musical terms. Listening enthusiasts will notice a noticeable lowering of the noise floor which actually brings greater clarity and brings out the finest details thanks to significant design improvements in many areas, without distorting the characteristic “Cyrus sound”.</ p>

TRANSPORT / SERVO-CIRCUIT

Several years ago, Cyrus invested heavily in the development of the proprietary “Servo” CD circuitry, the “Servo Evolution“. The design principle is to read as much information as possible from the disc itself on the first pass, rather than having to rely on “rereads” or “error correction”.

While it is true that data on a CD is stored in “1s ​​and 0s,” the way it is read, using reflected light at different frequencies, has analog elements. Therefore, precision engineering can improve its performance. Standard CD drives produce significant "system noise" when the drive mechanism motors have to be used during error correction processes, i.e. when data was not collected on the first pass. The Cyrus “Servo-Evolution” system reduces these readbacks and corrections by approximately 20%, producing not only a cleaner data stream, but also significantly less noise.

NOISE REDUCTION

Evident throughout the project are both the updated components and the completely redesigned circuits in an intelligent way which, using "countercurrent" methodologies, reduce noise pick-up.

The basic principle is that the "power" (supply) starts from the "quieter" section of the circuit and then flows to the "noisier" sections. Therefore, less noise is "carried" or induced in the feed paths, in order to limit the transmission of noise within the product itself. While this seems logical, the application in practice is incredibly complex and needs to be engineered at the system level. Even the geometric alignment of the individual components has been optimized to facilitate the flow of power and musical signal, in the cleanest way possible.

INTERNAL POWER SUPPLY

The Cyrus CDt-XR, like all products in the Cyrus XR series, has undergone a complete overhaul of the power supplies of each section of the circuit. The English engineers have created a precise and silent power supply section dedicated to the high-performance SE engine in an even more silent way.

NOT ONLY CYRUS CDT-XR

The Cyrus CDt-XR is one of the first products in Cyrus' new XR series. Cyrus' iconic, precision-crafted AudioGrade alloy die-cast chassis is the same as it always was, but everything else has changed. Revolutionary engineering inside, an all-new black paint finish, touch-sensitive controls, and a higher-resolution display that you can customize for brightness, contrast, and polarity take the XR line to the next level. Obviously there is no shortage of "under the skin" innovations and updates. The XR series products are the embodiment of the technology and knowledge accumulated over more than a decade. With close attention to the details of every component found in the audio path, XR line products take Cyrus audio performance to a high-end level.

CYRUS CHASSIS

The chassis is an integral part of the products sound. It's not just about good looks. The composition of the chassis is specifically designed to create an electronically and mechanically shielded environment free from vibration. In summary, the ideal solution for audio circuits, notoriously sensitive, which are hung inside the frame for a final result of the highest level.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE CYRUS CDT-XR

A key improvement in the Cyrus CDt-XR is the re-clocking of the digital signal just before the digital outputs. While noise and timing are both carefully managed throughout the circuit, this final re-clocking ensures absolute purity of the digital signal output through the optical and coaxial connections. It is worth noting that while an integrated CD player offers good value for money, the CDi-XR is objectively as close as possible to the technological ideal as the presence of a DAC circuit within the same chassis can effectively never be as “absolutely” clean and precise as that generated by a dedicated transport mechanism. Given the fact that XR Series integrated amplifiers and preamplifiers incorporate the second generation QXR DAC means that the Cyrus CDt-XR is, when used with a Cyrus system, the best choice of connoisseurs and serious music enthusiasts.</p >

BETTER CDi-XR OR CDt-XR?

The CDi-XR is a CD player with truly outstanding performance and great musicality. It integrates an excellent DAC specifically designed to work at a 16-bit 44.1 kHz resolution, therefore custom-designed for this player capable of returning a much higher result than another external DAC. The CDt-XR does not integrate a DAC, therefore it requires separate electronics - preferably high-end - which take care of converting the digital signal into analog. The digital signal output is superior compared to the CDi-XR: thanks to the improved Servo Evolution circuit, the re-clocking of the digital signal before the digital outputs which significantly reduces bitterness and the power supply dedicated to transport only. To express itself at its best, it obviously needs excellent quality digital cables – both optical and coaxial.

Cyrus' philosophy for reading CDs has always been the same: read it once and read it thoroughly. The latest implementation of Cyrus SE technology in the CDt-XR does exactly that, transmitting data from the disc to the audio processing circuitry with precision and accuracy

PURE TRANSPORT

With no built-in DAC, nor the need to drive it, the Cyrus CDt-XR functions purely as a digital transport. The absence of any DAC or analog circuitry allows the CDt-XR design to focus solely on data retrieval, state-of-the-art re-clocking, and high-performance digital output.

CONNECTIVITY

The CDt-XR includes coaxial and optical digital outputs, powered by a dedicated digital audio output driver to significantly improve signal quality.

MENU OF CONFIGURABLE OPTIONS

A new menu system makes the CDi-XR customizable and easy to configure. The tree navigation structure has display, timeout and system configuration options. Menu settings are quick and easy to select.

POWER SUPPLY DESIGN

As with any CD player, the performance of digital CD transports benefits greatly from high-quality, stable power supplies. In the case of the CDt-XR, the digital control circuits are driven by a dedicated high efficiency power supply. A high-capacity linear power supply separately powers the SE circuit, the digital master clock, the digital audio output driver, the PLL master clock and the drive motors through independent regulation channels.

PSU-XR PORT

The CDt-XR includes a port for the brand new Cyrus PSU-XR power supply. Thirty years ago Cyrus broke new ground with the introduction of the PSX-R, the first power supply that automatically adjusted to perfectly match the power requirements of any connected product. The PSU-XR raises the bar by providing no less than five independent power sections in a single chassis. For the CDt-XR, the PSU-XR is used to reduce the dynamic loads on the internal power supplies and allow them to operate under more stable conditions.

Tip: Filtered AC current

In the HiFi listening chains, the various devices must be consistent with each other to get the best results. Amplifiers and delicate electronics should always be powered with possibly controlled and filtered electric current. Any noise induced by sudden changes in the home network or in the macro living area is reflected in voltage oscillations - even important and harmful to the device - which in the best case are detrimental to listening pleasure and the absolute performance of our devices.

We strongly recommend the use of shielded power cords and good quality power strips with decent to good quality amplifiers and audio electronics. These improve the life and performance of the connected devices and also of the rest of the appliances in the house since they do not filter disturbances and discharges but, symmetrically, do not emit them. Toroidal electrical insulators for HiFi are also recommended to obtain the maximum in terms of listening and safety.
