PSU-XR is the external power supply for XR line components

Cyrus PSU-XR is the separate power supply designed to work with Cyrus' XR top-of-the-line components.

The English company has always placed the power supply at the center of its designs, creating PSX R2 right from the start to improve the quality of the Classic line electronics. In this prestigious latest creation, a completely new approach is introduced to provide a filtered, stable and regular current to compatible XR line products, in order to maximize their potential.

Thanks to the integrated microprocessor, the PSU-XR communicates directly with the connected Cyrus electronics to constantly provide the best power configuration, guaranteed by different output voltage levels.

The PSU-XR is the highest performing power supply ever made by Cyrus, capable of delivering up to 60% more power than the PSX R2 and – thanks to its revolutionary design – it is up to 50% more efficient.

In terms of performance, by associating the Cyrus PSU-XR power supply with the individual components of your Cyrus component chain – be it an amplifier, a power amp or a source such as a CD player – you get an improvement in audio quality, in terms of detail and definition.

What is hidden under the hood of the PSU-XR?

There are five independent power supplies inside the PSU-XR. Providing multiple supplies, all output voltages from the PSU-XR power supply are internally controlled in the digital domain, resulting in extremely stable and virtually noise-free.

All five power outputs are routed to an XR component connected via a proprietary multi-output cable:

- A high capacity intelligent power supply to power the digital circuitry of an XR component.

- Two fixed voltage power supplies intended to power sensitive low voltage analog circuits.

- Two high capacity variable voltage power supplies to power low or high consumption analog circuits.

Variable power supplies also have two unregulated voltage settings that can be applied to boost power into high-drain circuits such as power amplifiers. Fifteen separate and independent transformer windings, regulating loops isolated from ground, separate output power and ground loops in the interconnect cable minimize electrical noise on multiple feeds to the connected XR component.

Compatible models

The connection and configuration of the PSU-XR takes place via the proprietary cable to the single XR component. Each Cyrus XR product communicates with the connected PSU-XR to optimally configure the power supplies and best adapt to the component requirements.

The PSU-XR compatible Cyrus models are:

- i9-XR the reference integrated amplifier

- Pre-XR the reference preamplifier

- CDi-XR the CD player with integrated DAC

- CDt-XR the reference CD transport

Cyrus PSU-XR is defined as an "intelligent" power supply because it is the first power supply of the English company that has an integrated microprocessor. This allows for a very good integration between the power supply and connected products, always get the best configuration.

Tip: Filtered AC current

In Hi Fi chains, the various components should be connected in the best way to obtain the best result. Amplifiers and delicate electronics should always be powered with possibly controlled and filtered electric current. Any noise induced by voltage swings – due to other devices connected to the same home network – is reflected in voltage fluctuations; in addition to being harmful to the device in the long term, they cause disturbances in reproduction.

We recommend that high-performance devices, such as amplifiers and audio electronics from the Cyrus XR line be associated with the use of shielded power cables and good quality power strips. These accessories improve the performance and life of the connected devices, isolating them from the rest of the appliances in the house since they are not affected by network disturbances and, symmetrically, do not emit any.

Furthermore, for a higher level of protection, we recommend toroidal electrical insulators for HiFi to ensure complete isolation of the connected equipment and extended protection even with significant voltage peaks, such as lightning strikes.
