The Matrix MA-1 power amplifier is part of the brand's M series, complemented by the MS-1 network player and the MP-1 preamplifier. This new series features an innovative design, both in terms of its appearance and internal structure. This power amplifier is capable of delivering up to 2x 450W at 4 Ohms and 1x 900W at 4 Ohms in bridge mode. Connections include the essentials, as well as two 12V triggers. A switch allows you to adjust the gain in 2 levels to ensure greater compatibility with different types of preamplifiers and speakers. As for the power supply, Matrix has chosen to integrate an independent transformer for each channel and numerous capacitors, ensuring an extremely reliable and clean power supply.
The Matrix MA-1 power amplifier uses a Class AB amplification system with a parallel multi-triode push-pull output stage. The push-pull amplifier circuitry consists of 10 ONSEMI transistors per channel, reducing the impedance at the amplifier's output terminals. Powerful, the MA-1 delivers up to 2x 450W at 4 Ohms and 1x 900W at 4 Ohms in bridge mode.
It offers two gain settings. A normal setting corresponds to +30dB, while a attenuated setting is +24dB. This allows the MA-1 to be paired with a wide range of preamps and speakers available on the market.
Stereo mode
Each channel is processed independently to ensure a high level of detail and precision.
Bridge mode
In bridge mode, the combination of two MA-1s offers up to 2x 900W of power at 4 Ohms. This allows it to drive any type of speaker, even the most difficult.
Mono Mode
In mono mode, two speakers can be powered using two MA-1 amplifiers and bi-wired.
The MA-1 power supply includes one transformer per channel for a fully balanced design and a total power of 1250VA. This is complemented by 14 capacitors connected in parallel per channel, each with a capacity of 6,800uF, for a total of 190,000uF per channel. Compared to using a single capacitor with this capacity, this configuration reduces internal resistance, providing greater flexibility in handling significant currents.
Two sensors located on the main heatsink are connected to the MA-1 microprocessor to continuously evaluate the temperature of the unit. When the temperature exceeds a certain threshold, a large, silent fan (approximately 18cm in diameter) is activated, dynamically adjusting its speed.
